The Passeig de Gracia is the heart of Eixample and concentrates the most spectacular homes and icons of Catalan Modernism. Although currently it stands as one of the commercial arteries of the city, since its inception has served a backbone urban function, connecting the old city with the new.
Cultural Guided Tour
We begin the tour in the cafeteria Pedrera, the first building block of flats Eixample Gaudi. Then, thanks to the support of old photographs of Passeig de Gràcia from the Permanyer Photographic file, we review the history of the walk from his appearance as Jesus’ way to unite the people of Gràcia, until its conversion into walk-street in 1824 by Captain General of Catalonia causing it to fill with theaters and dance halls, and finally its conversion into the window of the bourgeoisie because of its spectacular modernist façades.
During the tour will visit some of the most interesting houses and finish the route in the Plaça de Catalunya discovering the Pons i Pascual, the oldest ride home .
